A drone attack in the early hours of July 29 caused a fire on a freight train in the city of Salsk, Rostov region, in Russia. The targets were reportedly two tank cars and a locomotive at a major railway junction.
Residents reported explosions and intense flames, while Russian soldiers tried to shoot down the drones with light weapons. The state railway operator confirmed that traffic at the station was suspended and that a stationary train caught fire after debris from the drones fell on it.
At least nine passenger trains were delayed due to the disruption. Independent channels released an image showing a military truck on fire on a railway platform in Salsk, raising suspicions that the attack may have targeted a military train heading to the Ukrainian border. The action comes amid growing strikes against Russian logistics infrastructure.
Around the same time, drones also hit a railway power substation in the Volgograd region, leaving part of the railway line without electricity. Russia claimed to have shot down 22 drones overnight in the Rostov region.
The attacks suggest a possible Ukrainian strategy to hinder Russian military movements toward the conflict zone.
